Study Abroad

 Academic Considerations

The College of Business supports education abroad as a beneficial part of your degree. Program requirements for business students, however, are numerous. In order to study abroad without delaying your graduation, business students are advised to follow these general guidelines.

A business student studying abroad typically takes 2 to 3 courses in their area of study and 1 to 2 courses that allow them to learn more about the host culture, which often count for other WSU requirements. When researching study abroad options, keep in mind that some universities will be better equipped to provide courses that can be applied to WSU’s graduation requirements.

For more information on specific program requirements or WSU graduation requirements, please visit the College of Business' Academics site, which can guide you through the requirements of your specific major as well as the more general requirements of the University. It is also important to talk with your advisor. To find your advisor visit the Advising Center for the College of Business.

General Education
You may fulfill many general education requirements when studying abroad. To apply study abroad courses toward your GERs, please contact the Director of General Education, Smith Center (CUE) 519D, 335-5699.

Lower Level Business Courses
Although most of these are not offered through Faculty-Led programs, you may take these courses through another study abroad option, which are generally offered at any school that has a business program, including the five College of Business Exchange Programs. All courses taken abroad must be pre-approved by your advisor.

Business Courses in Your Major
Many of these are offered through Faculty-Led programs as well as other education abroad programs. If you take courses abroad, especially through outside programs (not Faculty-Led) they must be pre-approved by your advisor.

Pre-professional Experiences
It is possible to do an internship abroad, with the approval of your advisor or program director.

Courses vary slightly from session to session for the Faculty-Led programs. To determine exactly what courses will be offered when you want to study abroad, contact the program representative or faculty member. For course information about other study abroad programs, visit the International Programs Office in Bryan Hall 105.
