When Should You Go?
With enough planning, business students can study abroad almost any semester.
Freshman
Start planning your study abroad experience now to fulfill the College of Business
International Experience Requirement
. Determine the best time to study abroad. A summer program will have the least impact on your academic schedule at WSU, but a semester or year-long program appeals to many students because it allows them to really benefit from the experience of another culture while living in another country. Start discussing your plan with your advisor so that they can help you determine a long-term class schedule.
Sophomore
If you choose not to wait and study through a Faculty-Led program, you can study abroad during your sophomore year to fulfill general education and certification requirements. Make sure you have pre-approved all classes with your advisor.
Junior
Junior year is a great time to study abroad--during the summer, for a semester, or for the whole year! You can travel on one or more Faculty-Led programs or participate in another education abroad program to fulfill general requirements, requirements for your major or other electives. Make sure you discuss all of your plans, especially your class schedule, with your advisor.
Senior
It's not too late! But careful planning is required to study abroad as a senior. A summer Faculty-Led program before your senior year may be easiest to fit into your plans. It is difficult to get some of the more specific requirements for your major unless you are willing to be more flexible with your destination. If you are a senior, meet with your advisor immediately to find out which of your remaining classes must be taken at WSU and which classes could be taken abroad. Remember, many of these final requirements will most likely be easier to fulfill through a Faculty-Led program than through an outside education abroad program.
