Dennis Reynolds, Terry Umbreit, and Christy Caldwell (MBA Candidate) recently sought to anticipate the continuing evolution and future research direction of hospitality and tourism by examining 1,267 papers from the proceedings of the 11 previous Annual Hospitality and Tourism Graduate Student Education and Research Conferences, searching for changes in topical focus, research design, and statistical approaches. The results show that subjects such as marketing have steadily risen in frequency; field studies and more rigorous statistical approaches have also increased.

Implications for hospitality education and research are discussed, and suggestions for fostering continued growth and development in this area are considered. They will present the paper, which is currently under publication review in the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, at an upcoming hospitality research conference in Houston.
