College of Business

 The MIS Undergraduate Experience

Our faculty strive to make our MIS undergraduate program relevant and timely, constantly searching for innovative ways to make technology meet today's business needs. Easily distinguishable from more technical degrees such as computer science, MIS focuses on the intersection between technology, people, and business. Our comprehensive curriculum, one of the most extensive in the nation, emphasizes both technical and business skills and includes courses that provide extensive hands-on experience not only in building software applications but also in understanding the people side of information systems. Students learn to work independently as well as in team situations.

MIS students have access to world-class facilities. The IS e-classroom, made possible in part through an $825,000 Microsoft Research gift of software, is a top-notch facility supporting both IS teaching and research. We have also pioneered innovative academic and industry partnerships with the Boeing Co., Connection by Boeing, Intel, and Dell that launched and equipped the Boeing Wireless Classroom of the Future, where the class environment includes technology, ergonomics, and pedagogy optimized for team collaboration and creativity. This facility allows students and faculty to conduct significant and leading-edge research on how new technology can be used to enhance the educational process.
