 Areas of Specialization

Research
Research activities form the foundation of all services provided by the EDA Center. Economic development activities within the research function of the University Center include secondary and original research. Original research is designed to provide technical assistance to economically distressed areas. The research activity is focused on methods or content that could be transferred to other economic entities within the state of Washington.

Technology Development
As a land grant university, WSU is mandated to provide outreach services to the State's citizens and businesses. In cooperation with our Colleges of Engineering and Architecture, and Agriculture and Home Economics, we focus on providing industrial extension services to enhance the state's industries, especially its agricultural businesses and food processing sectors.

Rural Emphasis
Because of the importance of our State's agricultural and natural resources base, we emphasize services to rural areas that continue to experience high unemployment.

Export Emphasis
Since Washington is highly dependent on exports, the EDA Center seeks to provide services to agri-business and others that export their products.
