 Strategic Goal 1 

Develop innovative leaders who understand the dynamic and global nature of business by offering the best experience in undergraduate business education in the Pacific Northwest.

Strategy 1.1:  Make priorities of globalization, innovation, diversity, entrepreneurship, and professional development in the College.


Tactics:

  • Measure, set goals, and monitor diversity of undergraduate student body in the College.
  • Create the organizational structure to facilitate these priorities cross-college and across the university where appropriate. 
  • Appoint existing and new personnel to responsibilities as identified.
  • Incorporate this strategic goal in annual review process, rewarding contributions to overall college goals (e.g., innovation, diversity, and internationalization).
  • Encourage more students to engage in entrepreneurship initiatives such business plan competitions. 
  • Establish and build endowment to support internationalization efforts.
  • Establish and build endowment to increase diversity in student body. 
  • Provide professional development opportunities for students and increase participation in these activities.
  • Determine structure and expectations regarding International Business Fellows in the College.
  • Measure ethical understanding of students and faculty and determine how curriculum can be responsive to business climates in this regard; make continuous improvements as determined necessary.

Strategy 1.2:  Create awareness in students, faculty, and staff regarding how diverse cultural perspectives, beliefs, and practices affect business locally and globally.

Tactics:

  • Change curriculum and/or requirements to accomplish this strategic objective.
  • Measure, establish goal, and increase number of CB students studying abroad.
  • Measure, establish goal, and increase number of faculty with international teaching and research experience.
  • Increase number of invited speakers with global expertise across College.
  • Build partnerships with universities abroad so that our students, staff, and faculty can have international experiences and bring students, staff, and faculty from universities abroad to the CB. 
  • Initiate Global Business Leadership Award. 
  • Motivate curricular changes within courses through teaching innovation grants.

Strategy 1.3:  Provide students with a continuously innovative and responsive learning environment that addresses the dynamic nature of the business environment.

Tactics:

  • Conduct more systematic, College-wide assessment and benchmarking and make changes to our programs, processes, and standards where appropriate.
  • Implement new outcomes-based core curriculum.
  • Implement outcomes-based undergrad core curriculum and insure that we direct our students to behave ethically in everything that they do as students and as professionals. Manage DDP enrollments and efficacy.
  • Expand MIS infrastructure and facilities for hands-on learning in networking, e-commerce, mobile computing, and business system application development.
  • Expand financial markets lab.
  • Marketing research lab.
  • Measure and improve student satisfaction and value.

Strategy 1.4: Continue to improve the college's ability to identify and meet student services needs.

Tactics:

  • Maintain AACSB accreditation and integrate AACSB-mandated benchmarking with WSU requirement for benchmarking.
  • Monitor admissions inputs (e.g., incoming SAT for freshman where applicable, GPA, TOEFL).
  • Maintain and improve certification practices to ensure we certify the most qualified students who apply to the CB.
  • Utilize advisors to promote diversity in recruiting prospective students.
  • Develop technology based tools to educate students on program requirements, college policies, and procedures.
  • Develop technology based tool that allows students to monitor their own academic progress.
  • Measure, establish goal, and improve student job placements.
  • Measure, establish goal and increase internship placements.
  • Measure, establish goal and improve career placement of undergraduate and Masters students in terms of the quality of the organizations and the salaries of the positions, and place more students nationally and abroad while maintaining strong regional placements.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for students and increase participation in these activities.
  • Measure and improve recruiter satisfaction and value.
  • Measure, establish goal and improve outcome performance on exams such as CFA, CPA.
  • Revise information systems to better address student needs and respective services provided by the college (e.g., development of an efficient web-based student services interface).
