 Strategic Goal 2 

Promote a pervasive commitment to world-class scholarship, research, and graduate education.

Strategy 2.1:
  Encourage and reward the development of national and international research reputations of college faculty and units. 

Tactics: 

  • Reward faculty commensurate with level of publication outputs (e.g., top rewards to top tier research journal publishing successes).
  • Increase number of faculty presenting at major national and international academic research meetings.
  • Increase number of faculty playing major, national and international service roles.
  • Reward faculty serving on editorial boards and in editorial positions commensurate with level of publication outlets.
  • Increase funding and support for faculty travel and conference registration.

Strategy 2.2:  Recruit and retain outstanding faculty, staff, and graduate students.

Tactics:

  • Measure, establish goals and monitor diversity of faculty, staff, and graduate student mix in College. Use AACSB comparison data from benchmarking processes to set salary goals.
  • Provide mentoring for junior faculty.
  • Make faculty, staff, and TA salaries more competitive, continuing to tie raises and rewards toward these goals/strategies.
  • Prioritize raising faculty fellowships, distinguished professorships, and endowed chairs in order to increase the diversity of our faculty mix, address differentials between state resources and market salaries, and to attract and retain outstanding faculty.
  • Implement marketing and communication activities related to this outcome.

Strategy 2.3: Deliver high quality graduate training at the doctoral level.

Tactics:

  • Evaluate areas of doctoral graduate education where efficiencies can be gained and implement recommendations.
  • Develop and target excellence in select programs where we have differential advantages over competing programs.
  • Monitor and improve doctoral student placements at peer or better academic institutions both nationally and internationally.
  • Establish goal of more national and international input and placement.
  • Improve admissions inputs (e.g., GPA, GMAT, TOEFL) for doctoral programs.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for all graduate students.
  • Re-evaluate allocation of graduate assistantships associated with all programs in the college.

Strategy 2.4: Deliver high quality graduate training at the Masters level.

Tactics:

  • Evaluate MBA programs and make corrections as necessary to insure continuous improvement. 
  • Evaluate various MBA programs that are offered throughout the system and institute changes as identified as necessary to insure continuous improvement and meet the needs of our varying constituents.
  • Establish goal of more national and international input and placement.
  • Improve admissions inputs (e.g., GPA, GMAT, TOEFL) for Masters programs.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for all graduate students.
  • Measure and improve student satisfaction and value for Masters students.
  • Increase outcome performance on exams such as CPA, CFA, where applicable.

Strategy 2.5:  Increase the communication of these activities and priorities both internally and externally.

Tactics:

  • Incorporate communication as part of Strategic Marketing Plan.
  • Celebrate publicly.
