 Strategic Goal 4 

Foster a climate of respect, cooperation, and continued excellence in all College activities.

Strategy 4.1: Further develop a climate that is inclusive, understanding and respectful of the full range of human experience.

Tactics: 

  • Review expectations the college has for ethical behavior by administrators, faculty, and students. Evaluate whether these expectations have been effectively communicated internally and externally. Establish a code of ethics for students.
  • Assess the current level of support for diversity within the college and identify ways we can further support diversity.
  • Establish specific goals and incorporate in regular reports.
  • Use a climate survey to gauge the perceptions of faculty and staff within the college with respect to the effectiveness of the college leadership, the level of trust and respect within the college and its units, and the level and effectiveness and communication within the college.
  • Communicate internally and externally this priority.

Strategy 4.2: Further develop internal communications to inform and engage faculty and staff regarding College priorities and activities.

Tactics: 

  • Facilitate regular communication between CB administration, faculty, and staff (e.g., INSIDE CB, eDividend).
  • Better utilize re-designed website for internal communication needs.
  • Hold semi-annual all-College meetings.
  • Develop more effective and consistent mechanisms for informing the college of faculty research successes.

Strategy 4.3: Maintain a diverse and strong leadership team in the College.

Tactics:

  • Continue to prioritize diversity in recruiting and promotion.
  • Consider diversity as a factor when considering internal candidates for leadership positions and key committee chairs and memberships.
  • Provide a mechanism for effective assessment of those in leadership positions (e.g., incorporate results of climate survey into leadership self-assessment).

Strategy 4.4: Further develop and promote fair and ethical decision-making processes at all levels.

Tactics: 

  • Seek faculty and staff input to decision-making processes.
  • Review expectations the college has for ethical behavior by administrators, faculty, and students. Evaluate whether these expectations have been effectively communicated internally and externally.
  • Hold leadership planning sessions.

Strategy 4.5: Pursue recognition for excellence in our educational and research programs.

Tactics:

  • Continue to implement and update as necessary the CB Strategic Marketing Plan driven by CB Strategic Plan.
  • Maintain effective Web and other media presence to serve and communicate with key audiences.

Strategy 4.6: Improve funding in order to insure continued excellence across College activities. 

Tactics: 

  • Insure that CB Development Priorities are driven by this Strategic Plan.
  • Work effectively within the WSU system to secure state funding commensurate with College activities.
  • Develop and use accountability process for CB development team continually working to maximize return-on-investment for this staff.
  • Work closely with each academic unit and individual faculty members in planning and implementation of development activities.
  • Leverage College fundraising successes to motivate more and larger major gifts to the CB.
  • Secure and build Dean's endowment to insure College initiatives can be engaged in and sustained.
  • Secure naming gift for CB.
  • Align fundraising priorities and messaging with University campaign communication.
  • Communicate more effectively to alumni, donors, and other key influencers.
  • Develop CB National Board of Advisors operational principles and institute integrated unit- and campus-level advisory board activities and participation.
  • Develop systematic alumni tracking system.
