PULLMAN, Wash.—The Washington Center for Real Estate Research and the Department of Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate in the College of Business at Washington State University will host its inaugural Real Estate Lecture on Tuesday, November 3. WSU MIS Professors Awarded National Science Foundation Grant to Study Work-Life Balance Impact (10.15.09)

Heath Insurance Executive to Deliver 2009 Walton Lecture (09.29.09)
PULLMAN, Wash., –The 17th annual Walton Lecture will be given by Robert V. O’Brien, Jr., executive vice president of the Health Plan Division of Group Health Cooperative, on October 12 at the Washington State University College of Business. O’Brien’s lecture is titled “The Great Health Care Debate,” and comes at a time when no issue has received greater attention. WSU Business Plan Competition Awards $100,000 (04.21.09)
PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State University Business Plan Competition, organized by the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies in the College of Business, took place in Pullman April 17-18. The two-day event included more than 130 competitors in four divisions, including two WSU divisions, and high school and non-student divisions. Forty-eight teams presented their plans to a panel of judges from the business community, with the winning teams sharing cash and prizes totaling $100,000. [more...]

WSU Alumnus Bill Monro to be Remembered by the School of Hospitality Business Management with Scholarship (03.12.09) 
PULLMAN, Wash. –The Washington State University School of Hospitality Business Management has created an endowed scholarship in honor of alumnus Selmar Jay “Bill” Monro (‘43 Hotel Management) of San Francisco. The S. J. “Bill” Monro Hospitality Scholarship will provide scholarships for WSU students majoring in hospitality. Monro was one of the first eight graduates of the school, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2007. [more...]

Washington Home Sales Slump Further, Home Prices Remain Weak (02.12.09) 
PULLMAN, Wash. – National news reports indicated home sales rebounded in late 2008, especially in the West, but that strength did not extend into Washington. The Washington Center for Real Estate Research at Washington State University reports that in the final quarter of 2008 home resales fell to their lowest level since WCRER began tracking the market in 1994. During the quarter, existing homes sold at an annual rate of 71,730 homes, a decline of 15.8 percent from the prior quarter and 29.1 percent below the sales rate a year ago. Home sales peaked in the third quarter of 2005, when the sales rate was 163,600 units. Sales were below last quarter in 34 counties and below a year ago in 37 of the 39 counties in Washington.
